The Pelican Cage
I just saw the saddest thing
The heron still comes
And lands on the same piece of water that it has always done
Forgetting momentarily the majesty of it's own wings
It waits inside what is now the gilded cage of the kings birds
Wings clipped
Unable to fly
They wait patiently by the gate each morning for the hand fed fish
Now the heron waits
Perched upon the gate for a morsel of food
Wings forgotten
An imaginary inmate
In the Kings lavish castle
The heron still comes
And lands on the same piece of water that it has always done
Forgetting momentarily the majesty of it's own wings
It waits inside what is now the gilded cage of the kings birds
Wings clipped
Unable to fly
They wait patiently by the gate each morning for the hand fed fish
Now the heron waits
Perched upon the gate for a morsel of food
Wings forgotten
An imaginary inmate
In the Kings lavish castle
